Dr. Shivani Sharma is a faculty in the IILM School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at IILM University, Gurugram who is an example of how to build a flourishing career in liberal arts by following your passion.

She has a doctorate in the field of food ethics with a special interest in food commodification and the relevance of local and grassroots movements in moving towards just and fair food systems. She has had the honor of securing the Indian Philosophical Congress Medal 2014 (Gold Medal) which is the highest medal awarded to academic achievers during a master’s degree in the University of Delhi for philosophy. She has worked as a Senior Research Fellow in the department of philosophy, University of Delhi with over nine years of research experience in philosophy mainly, food ethics and has been awarded the prestigious JRF scholarship. She has completed her graduation from Gargi college, University of Delhi and M.A. from Hindu college, University of Delhi.

She is a published author in reputed journals by Springer Publishers and has also been a regular reviewer for them. She also gathered field experience from working directly with organic farmers in India during her time at Dr. Vandana Shiva’s organization Navdanya Trust in Hauz Khas. She assisted Dr. Shiva and her team in launching the Indian food sovereignty movement called the “Anna Swaraj” during her time at Navdanya in 2018. Previously, she was working with Ashoka University in a teaching position.
