Bhavneet Singh Aurora
Associate Dean – Department of Communication


Bhavneet Singh Aurora is the Associate Dean of the Department of Communication at IILM University, Gurugram. He comes with a rich industry experience of more than 20 years in leading media organisations such as The Indian Express, Outlook Magazine, NDTV, MetroNow, The Hindustan Times and the India Today Group.

Prior to joining academics in 2019, Bhavneet was the Head of Operations at the India Today Group Digital and was responsible for the smooth functioning of the group’s website. He was also the single point of contact between the different sister concerns of India Today group and the website. Apart from this, he has also held leadership positions in different organisations such as The Hindustan Times and MetroNow.

Bhavneet is currently pursuing his PhD on the impact of artificial intelligence tools that are being used in digital newsrooms in India. As part of his PhD and continuing research on AI, he has presented papers at various conferences including at the University of Helsinki and the Ramon Lull University in Barcelona, Spain.

Bhavneet is also an award-winning wildlife and street photographer.

Lydia Glory Jose is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at IILM University, Gurugram, combining a profound academic background with over ten years of expertise spanning higher education teaching, journalism, and corporate communications. Her core expertise encompasses media research, framing studies, political communication, online journalism, copywriting, and multimedia production. Lydia’s academic pursuits and professional experiences synergize, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of media dynamics while imparting invaluable knowledge to her students.

In her current academic capacity, she instructs students in core subjects such as News and Reporting, and Media and Cultural Studies. She is dedicated to guiding academic writing and reviewing student research aligned with policy, governance, and media ethics. Furthermore, she manages internal publications, edits faculty research, and supports the university’s communication materials. Her previous academic tenures include serving as an Assistant Professor at Christ College of Science & Management, where she taught editing techniques and strategic communication , and as a Teaching Assistant for postgraduate media studies at Christ (Deemed to be University).

Beyond academia, she possesses robust industry experience from her role as a Corporate Communications Officer at Drake & Scull International PJSC in Dubai. In this position, she led internal communication campaigns, drafted official corporate content, and played a vital role in storytelling and reputation building. Earlier in her career, she served as an Assistant Content Producer for Manorama Online, where she edited digital news content, wrote in-depth analytical pieces, and produced political and civic coverage focused on policy impact and development narratives

Sukhpreet Kaur is a dedicated academician and researcher in the field of communication and media studies. With expertise in media governance, digital media literacy, and the evolving relationship between media, culture, and society, she brings both academic depth and practical insight to her teaching and research. She holds a Master’s degree in Media Governance from Jamia Millia Islamia and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.

Currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at IILM University, Gurugram, Sukhpreet has previously taught at MBICEM, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi. She is UGC-NET qualified in Journalism and Mass Communication and is actively engaged in research related to digital media, social media ecosystems, media culture, and society.

Sukhpreet has contributed to academic scholarship through book chapters, research presentations, and scholarly reviews. She has published a book chapter in Editing Essentials: Newsroom to News Practices (Atlantic Publishers) and authored a book review published in the quarterly journal of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, “Communicator,” reviewing the second edition of Understanding Media Culture by Nick Stevenson. In addition to her academic work, she has also contributed professionally by working with the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Through her teaching and research, Sukhpreet is committed to encouraging critical engagement with contemporary media environments and fostering analytical thinking among students in an increasingly digital and information-driven society.

Everything you need to know about studying communication, journalism, and media at IILM

Not at all. Communication welcomes students from science, commerce, and humanities. What matters most is curiosity, storytelling ability, and a desire to understand the world. Our curriculum brings all students up to speed regardless of background.

Journalism focuses on reporting, storytelling, and public interest writing, preparing students for roles in news media. Corporate Communication focuses on strategic messaging, PR, branding, and organisational communication. Both require strong writing, research, and media skills.

Minor selection typically happens after the foundational year. Students are guided through the process with academic counselling. Please consult the department for specific policies on flexibility and credit transfer.

Students have interned at The Indian Express, The Print, Newslaundry, Dentsu, Value 360, Zomato, and more. Opportunities span journalism, PR, digital media, branding, social media, and creative industries.

No prior experience is required. The program starts with fundamentals and gradually introduces tools like Maya, Blender, Unity, and Unreal Engine. Both creative and technical students can excel.

The MA is a postgraduate program focused on research, policy, and advanced theory. The BA is a four-year professional degree designed for entry-level industry roles.
