The Master Class on Data Science, delivered by Dr. Bhaskar Roy — Vice President at Genpact India — was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations by exposing students and faculty to practical applications of Data Science, industry best practices, and the skills required to succeed in data-centric roles in large-scale enterprise environments. Dr. Bhaskar Roy shared insights on how Data Science is applied in real-world business environments, particularly in large organisations like Genpact, covering data-driven decision-making, analytics in enterprise systems, and the evolving role of Data Science professionals in driving measurable business outcomes. The session addressed industry expectations, skill development, and career pathways in the field of Data Science, providing participants with a concrete understanding of what organisations such as Genpact require from candidates and how students can align their academic development accordingly. An interactive discussion engaged students and faculty on industry use cases of Data Science, skill sets required for data analytics roles, the transition from academics to industry, and future trends in Data Science and AI — making the session a comprehensive orientation to the professional landscape of the discipline. With 144 participants from both student and faculty cohorts, the session strengthened industry–academia interaction, motivated students toward data-driven career paths, and provided faculty with updated awareness of industry expectations relevant to curriculum and pedagogy.
Participants gained practical and industry-relevant understanding of Data Science applications drawn from one of India’s leading enterprise analytics organisations, providing a grounded, real-world context for the data science concepts they study academically. Students received guidance on career readiness and skill alignment with industry needs, developing a clearer understanding of the competencies Genpact and similar organisations seek in data analytics candidates.
The interactive discussion allowed students to explore industry use cases, ask questions about the transition from academics to industry, and engage with future trends in Data Science and AI — developing professional awareness and career orientation at an early stage. The session strengthened industry–academia interaction and motivated students toward data-driven career paths, with the participation of faculty alongside students enhancing the collaborative and cross-generational nature of the learning experience. With 144 participants engaging with a Vice President from a global enterprise analytics firm, the master class delivered significant industry exposure and professional inspiration to the SCSE student community.
