The School of Management at IILM University, Gurugram, hosted a specialised session in collaboration with EBSCO — a leading provider of digital research databases and scholarly resources — led by Mr. Ritesh Kumar Jha, Senior Training Manager (North India), providing students and faculty with expert-guided training in advanced research methodologies and database navigation.
The session equipped participants with expertise in three interconnected research competencies: database navigation across EBSCO’s scholarly platforms, search refinement techniques for locating precise and relevant academic sources, and effective utilisation of scholarly resources — a practical skills set that directly enhances the quality, efficiency, and credibility of academic and professional research outputs.
The collaboration with EBSCO provided participants with insights into digital library tools and their role in academic workflows — positioning digital research literacy not as a supplementary skill but as a core competency for academic and professional progress in an environment where evidence-based research and access to quality scholarly literature are fundamental requirements.
The session demonstrated the value of industry-academia partnerships in equipping students and faculty with skills relevant to both academic scholarship and professional practice — reflecting IILM’s commitment to supplementing classroom instruction with specialised, externally delivered expert knowledge in areas that directly enhance research capacity and scholarly output.
By bridging advanced database tools with practical academic application, the session contributed to building a research-capable community within the School of Management — strengthening the institution’s capacity to produce high-quality empirical and evidence-based scholarship aligned with the rigorous standards of contemporary management research.
Students developed practical expertise in navigating EBSCO’s scholarly research databases — acquiring the technical fluency required to locate, filter, and access high-quality academic literature efficiently, a skill that directly enhances the depth, credibility, and methodological rigour of their academic research and dissertation work.
Training in search refinement techniques equipped students with the ability to conduct precise, targeted literature searches — enabling them to move beyond broad keyword searches and engage with academic databases in a more strategic, time-efficient, and academically productive manner.
Participants gained a clearer understanding of how digital library tools integrate into academic research workflows — developing the ability to use scholarly databases not merely as reference tools but as systematic, integral components of a structured and methodologically sound research process.
Students benefited from the practical, expert-led instruction of an EBSCO training professional, gaining insights into the capabilities, features, and best-use practices of one of the world’s leading academic research platforms — knowledge that directly strengthens their capacity to support dissertation research, faculty-supervised projects, and independent scholarly inquiry.
The session reinforced for students the growing importance of digital research literacy as a professional competency — equipping them with skills applicable not only to academic work but to evidence-based decision-making and knowledge management in professional business and management contexts.
