What Happened

The Legal Aid Clinic, School of Law, organised an academic visit to District Jail (Bhondsi), Gurugram, on 29 September 2026 from 11:00 AM, for School of Law UG students. The coordinators were Dr. Nidhi Saroj and Ms. Shiney Yadav, and jail officials facilitated the visit. Students went through security protocols and saw the family visitor area, with its glass barrier and intercom, and the prison kitchen, where they sampled the food. They also saw the sports grounds and the vocational training centres (computers, welding, carpentry) and the furniture production unit, whose products sold at Surajkund Mela. In the second correctional compound they observed art, music and dance therapy, an inmate band performance and the inmate-run radio station. Officials explained the daily schedules, permission-based movement and lock-up timings. Access to the solitary-confinement area was not permitted for safety and administrative reasons.
