What Happened

The Centre of Excellence in Robotics and Automation, SCSE, organised an intra-university competition, “Best out of Waste: Innovative Solution for Sustainable Future,” on 15 September 2026 as part of Engineers’ Day, with 20 teams taking part. The day began with a lamp lighting by the Dean and faculty, followed by an introductory address and an interactive Q&A with students on sustainable solutions and innovative use of waste. After lunch, teams presented and demonstrated working projects made from waste, scrap and e-waste. They explained their concept, materials, working principle, applications and sustainability aspects to the judges. Projects were scored on innovation, creativity, sustainability, functionality and practical applicability. Winners were announced in the auditorium and awarded certificates.

Top Insights

  • Students built working projects from waste, scrap and electronic waste, which linked engineering skills directly to sustainability.
  • Each team defended its project in person to judges who scored it, so the format went beyond a display.
  • 57% of feedback respondents rated the overall event 5/5, and 50% rated its learning value 5/5 (14 responses).

Student Takeaways

  • Students got hands-on practice turning waste into engineering solutions and applying engineering principles to real environmental problems.
  • The competition built teamwork, project development and technical presentation skills.
  • Students valued the direct interaction with judges and faculty and the feedback they received.
