Think Like a Contract Lawyer

The School of Law, IILM University, Gurugram, organised a session titled “Think Like a Lawyer: A Beginner’s Guide to Contract Vetting and Risk Assessment” on 27 August 2026. The session was conducted by Dr Mayuri Raghuvanshi, Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court of India. It covered the fundamentals of contract vetting, identification of legal and commercial risks, clause interpretation, and the role of a lawyer in anticipating challenges in contractual agreements — aimed at helping students move beyond the literal reading of a contract to assess its practical implications.

• The session connected classroom learning in Contract Law with real-world professional practice, using practical examples from contract review and negotiation.
• Students were introduced to a lawyer’s risk-oriented approach — reading contractual clauses not just for their literal meaning, but for their broader legal and commercial consequences.
• The session reflects the School of Law’s continued push toward practice-oriented, experiential legal education rather than purely theoretical teaching.
