The Certificate-Based Workshop on SPSS was organised for graduating batches of BA (H) Psychology (Semester 6) and MA Psychology (Semester 4), aimed at providing students with practical training in statistical data analysis using SPSS — an essential tool in psychological research. Day 1 introduced students to the SPSS software environment, guiding them through the Data View and Variable View panels, showing them how to enter and organise research data, define variables, code responses for analysis, and demonstrating descriptive statistical analyses. The opening session by Dr. Aanchal and Ms. Aradhya emphasised the importance of statistical literacy and familiarity with analytical tools for conducting meaningful psychological research. Day 2 continued hands-on training, with students introduced to basic inferential statistical procedures including correlation and group comparison tests, and guidance on interpreting SPSS output tables and understanding the statistical significance of research findings. The two-day workshop successfully combined theoretical understanding with practical demonstrations, with participants awarded Certificates of Completion in recognition of their participation.Speaker Quote:
Dr. Badal Rathore provided a structured introduction to the SPSS software environment, guiding students through the key components including the Data View and Variable View panels. The opening session emphasised that statistical literacy and familiarity with analytical tools like SPSS are essential for conducting meaningful psychological research. On Day 2, Dr. Rathore introduced students to basic inferential statistical procedures including correlation and group comparison tests and explained how to interpret SPSS output tables and understand the statistical significance of research findings.
Students developed a practical understanding of how statistical concepts are applied through SPSS in psychological research and gained hands-on experience in data entry, variable coding, and running statistical tests using SPSS software. Students learned how to enter and organise research data, define variables, code responses for analysis, and run descriptive statistical analyses to summarise and explore research data effectively. Day 2 specifically developed their competency in inferential statistical procedures including correlation and group comparison tests. Students developed confidence in interpreting statistical outputs and understanding their implications in research findings. Participants were awarded Certificates of Completion, providing a formal, employer-recognisable credential. The workshop helped students recognise the importance of quantitative research methods in evidence-based psychology, and participants developed a clearer understanding of how SPSS skills can support academic research, higher education, and professional work in psychology.
