Prof. (Dr.) Arun Gupta is a distinguished legal academic, practitioner, and administrator with over 30 years of post-qualification experience spanning industry, teaching, and institutional leadership. Currently serving as Dean (Law) at IILM University, he brings to the role a rare combination of courtroom expertise, scholarly depth, and a sustained commitment to legal education and access to justice.
He began his career in 1995 as an advocate and practiced for over two decades. He served as Additional Central Government Counsel, Panel Lawyer for several banks, GGS Indraprastha University and the National Minority Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC). His practice spanned civil, banking, arbitration, criminal, and RTI matters giving him a broad-based litigation perspective that continues to enrich his teaching.
Dr. Gupta pursued a distinguished academic career as visiting faculty at USLLS, GGS Indraprastha University, and VIPS and as full time Professor and Principal, School of Law at the IIMT, GGSIP University.
Dr. Gupta’s teaching and research interests span Alternative Dispute Resolution, Banking and Insolvency Laws, the SARFAESI and Debt Recovery Laws, Investment and Competition Laws, Right to Information, Drafting, Pleading and Conveyancing, and the Code of Civil Procedure. He has published across diverse areas of contemporary legal concern. His recent scholarly work includes articles on the emerging doctrine of ecocide in international criminal law, blockchain applications in international trade finance, criminal liability under consumer protection law, and the legal challenges of India’s gig economy. He has contributed chapters to edited volumes and presented papers at numerous national seminars, webinars, and law conferences.
Beyond the classroom, he has been a Member of the New Delhi District Legal Services Committee, Associate Member in National Lok Adalats.
As a Resource Person, he has trained officers and professionals at institutions including the Directorate of Training (UTCS, GNCT Delhi), Delhi Jal Board, National Law University Delhi, Ambedkar University Delhi, Container Corporation of India (ConCor), the National Telecommunications Institute (NTIPRIT), ICFAI Hyderabad and the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) etc.
