Prof. (Dr.) Vadivel Ayyasamy is a visionary academic administrator, researcher, and educator dedicated to inspiring students and faculty toward academic and personal excellence. With an extensive track record in higher education governance, he possesses deep expertise in modern academic frameworks, including Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), Track-Based Curriculum Design, and comprehensive institutional accreditation processes such as NAAC, NIRF, AICTE, NBA, and UGC. He is recognized for fostering challenging, high-engagement learning environments and transforming complex theoretical challenges into impactful, funded research initiatives. He has earned his PhD and Masters from IIT, Kharagpur.
His interdisciplinary research spans cutting-edge domains within Computer Science, Intelligence Systems, and Computer Vision including, Generative AI & Architecture (Large Language Models – LLMs and RSIC), Video Analytics (Edge Video Analytics and Object Tracking in Video Sequences), Information Retrieval (Content-Based Image and Video Retrieval, Multimedia Retrieval from WWW, and Web Log Mining), Data Analytics (Sentiment Analysis), and Medical Informatics (Mammogram Analysis and Interpretation).
The major awards & honors received by Prof. Vadivel include: Indo-US 21st Knowledge Initiative Award (2013), Govt. of India – executed advanced research projects at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), USA, Indo-US Research Fellow Award (2008), Indo-US Science and Technology Forum, Govt. of India – conducted advanced international research at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), USA and Fast Track – Young Scientist Award (2007), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India.
Prof. Ayyasamy has carried out significant research on mammogram analysis and interpretation to support radiologists in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. Another significant research project focused on Cognitive Science, aimed at measuring students’ emotional states during lectures to enhance the teaching-learning process in the higher education system. Both research projects were carried out at UNLV, USA.
The Professor has undergone specialized training on Cognitive-based Teaching-Learning process in which pedagogy of a course is designed to engage the students using group-based learning, flipped classrooms, quizzes, etc. at MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, USA in 2016. He participated in a large-scale Data Science course attended by over 800 students to understand the large-scale, time-bound evaluation methodologies through TAs based on case studies, thought- provoking problem sets, finger exercises at the University of California, Berkely, USA during 2017. For academic collaboration, research and professional engagements, he has visited several countries, including the USA, Singapore, Dubai, China, Japan, Thailand and Malaysia.
