
Assistant Professor
Somya Sharma is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at IILM University, Greater Noida, with around nine years of experience across academia and the corporate sector. A UGC-NET-qualified scholar, she is currently pursuing her PhD at Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies. Her research centres on caste representation in Indian regional cinema, examined through an analytical study of over-the-top (OTT) content.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi, and a Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Her academic interests lie in Journalism and Media Studies, with a focus on advertising, public relations, theatre studies, and film appreciation.
She has published book chapters and research papers in Scopus-indexed and other academic journals, and has presented her work at national and international conferences, including the 28th European Conference on South Asian Studies (ECSAS 2025) held in Heidelberg, Germany.
Professionally, she has worked with higher education institutions, advertising agencies, and government bodies such as the Institute of Government Accounts and Finance (INGAF), under the Ministry of Finance. She is also a theatre practitioner and educator, and an avid cinephile and reader.
